As mothers of infants struggle to find formula on store shelves, StarMed Healthcare stepped up to help, giving more than a thousand babies a week's worth of formula Tuesday in Charlotte while committing to do more.

“Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,100 babies were given about a week’s supply of formula yesterday here in Charlotte,” the company tweeted Wednesday.

Health experts recommend parents reach out to their child's pediatrician if they are having issues finding formula, WBTV reported.

“There’s a lot of new moms out there that are very nervous and very upset because they can’t find it in the store,” Sandra Guile, a spokesperson for the Better Business Bureau, told the news station. “So, the next natural thing to do is to go online and look for it.”

She cautioned against buying formula online, warning parents about the likelihood of running into scammers wishing to take advantage of the situation.

The giveaway, though, was a more tangible way to help mothers of young children as the struggle to find formula drags on. StarMed is an independently owned medical center in Charlotte, WBTV reported.

“That might be the most gratifying thing I've ever done. We can and we will do more, #Charlotte #together," the company said in a tweet.
