The Morrison Family YMCA in Ballantyne is planning renovations to its pool and is building a retractable cover for the expanded swim facility.

The project includes a DynaDome structure that will cover the pool to create a year-round aquatic experience that will positively impact the children, families and community served; a WBTV report said this week.

“This enclosure will allow us to expand our aquatics programming to offer year-round swimming lessons, lap swimming, swim team, adaptive swim, athletic training, water therapy, water group exercise and family engagement opportunities,” a YMCA spokesperson told WBTV.

The updates will include a redesign that will expand the current pool to eight lanes. A new pool deck is also planned. The work is expected to be finished by the summer of 2023.

After the pool closes at the end of next summer, construction will begin on the dome.

The project is part of a broader plan that will allow the YMCA to expand its drowning prevention and water safety efforts by teaching more children and adults how to swim and will provide members with an additional year-round amenity for health and wellness.
