Dog owners in a Charlotte neighborhood near the Charlotte Country Club are banding together to try to get the attention of officials about a dangerous situation along Shamrock Drive.
Liz Monterrey, who has lived in the neighborhood less than a year, has witnessed three motor vehicle accidents in which cars have plowed into a dog park.
"It’s a shame that we can’t have nice things because it’s something we can’t use, as residents we’re afraid,” she said in a WCNC report this week.
Monterrey has started gathering signatures on a petition to bring to city leaders as they appeal for a stop sign or something that would similarly slow traffic along a curve on Shamrock Drive, the report said. More than 300 people have signed the petition so far.
"If people are just as passionate about this as I am, then maybe that will be enough leverage to then get the attention of officials and say 'hey, look the whole neighborhood is behind this,’” Monterrey said.
A map of the area shows how the road bends near the dog play area.
“I think there should be a stop sign right here, or some sort of speed control," Monterrey said, pointing out one part along the stretch of road where many drivers speed.
