Senator Thom Tillis and a group of colleagues have introduced the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act in response to the Biden Administration's proposed rule and regulations aimed at limiting consumer vehicle choice and promoting electric vehicles (EVs). The CARS Act seeks to counter the administration's radical environmental agenda and executive overreach.

According to data from Kelley Blue Book, the average price of an EV is over $17,000 more than the average price of a gas-powered vehicle. This push for EVs not only threatens to harm everyday Americans but also puts auto workers' jobs at risk, while simultaneously benefiting China's dominance in the EV supply chain.

Senator Tillis stated, "The EPA has no business dictating what cars Americans can purchase with their hard-earned money. This legislation fights against the Biden Administration's radical green agenda, protects consumers from executive overreach, and promotes American production and innovation."

The Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act has several key provisions:

- It prohibits the EPA from finalizing, implementing, or enforcing its proposed emissions rule.

- It prevents the use of authority under the Clean Air Act to issue regulations that mandate the use of any specific technology or limit the availability of new motor vehicles based on their engine type, including any regulations prescribed on or after January 1, 2021.

- It requires the EPA to update any regulations since January 1, 2021, that result in the limited availability of new vehicles based on their engine type within two years.

- It aims to end the EPA's radical agenda, which is driving up costs for people and giving control of America's auto industry to China.

The CARS Act has received support from various organizations, including the American Petroleum Institute, American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers, National Propane Gas Association, National Association of Convenience Stores, and many others.

The full text of the bill can be found on the official government website.

This legislation highlights the opposition to the Biden Administration's push for electric vehicles and the concerns regarding the impact on consumer choice and job security. Senator Tillis and his colleagues aim to protect consumers from executive overreach and ensure American production and innovation continue to thrive in the automotive industry.
