The U.S. Senate has passed Senator Thom Tillis' bipartisan amendment aimed at expanding access to breast cancer screenings for veterans. The amendment, which received support from both sides of the aisle, seeks to address the issue of early detection of breast cancer among female veterans.

In a statement, Senator Tillis emphasized the importance of regular screenings in saving lives: "Early detection of breast cancer through regular screenings plays a critical role in saving lives. I'm proud to cosponsor this important amendment on behalf of our female veterans."

The bipartisan amendment includes provisions to allocate funding to the VA's Office of Women's Health. This funding will be used to expand access to mobile mammography units, improve advanced mammography equipment, and enhance outreach services to better publicize mammography services.

The need for such measures is underscored by statistics from the National Library of Medicine, which show that female veterans are nearly three times more likely to develop invasive breast cancer than the rest of the population.

The amendment was incorporated into the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs appropriations bill, which recently passed the Senate. This development signifies a significant step forward in improving access to breast cancer screenings for veterans.

This amendment is a positive step toward ensuring that female veterans have the same access to breast cancer screenings as the general population. By expanding access to mobile mammography units, improving equipment, and enhancing outreach services, we can improve early detection and potentially save lives. Our female veterans deserve the best possible care, and this bipartisan amendment is a step in the right direction.
