WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Thom Tillis and a group of his colleagues have introduced a resolution aimed at bolstering the economic relationship between the United States and Israel. The resolution comes in the wake of Israel's conflict with Hamas, which has had a detrimental impact on the Israeli economy.
Senator Tillis emphasized the importance of the resolution, stating, "This resolution reiterates America's support for the Israeli people and their economy following the brutal attacks carried out by Hamas on October 7th. I am committed to working with my colleagues to ensure America and Israel's economic relationship continues to thrive and grow during this difficult time."
The U.S.-Israel Free Trade Agreement, established in 1985, has played a significant role in fostering trade between the two nations. Since its inception, U.S.-Israel trade has grown more than sevenfold. In 2022 alone, American companies exported $14.2 billion in goods and $5.8 billion in services to Israel. Key exports included machinery, mechanical appliances, stone, glass, metals, and chemicals. Conversely, Israeli companies exported $21.4 billion in goods and $9.2 billion in services to the U.S. last year. Additionally, Israeli companies' foreign direct investment in the U.S. amounted to $10.6 billion in 2022, supporting over 20,000 American jobs.
The resolution has garnered support from several organizations, including the National Taxpayers Union, the Center for Individual Freedom, and the Trade Alliance to Promote Prosperity.
