Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management Office (CMEMO), Mecklenburg County, and the City of Charlotte are collaborating to monitor severe weather and its potential impacts on Mecklenburg County. The agencies are in constant communication with their partners to address any community needs and will continue to monitor the weather and respond accordingly.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services has taken proactive measures by checking high priority areas such as creeks, road crossings, culverts, sewer line crossings, and bridges. With over 100,000 storm drains in Charlotte, residents are urged to safely clear debris from storm drains in their neighborhoods. This will help prevent flooding and minimize the risk of damage.

In preparation for the severe weather, all residents are encouraged to take the following steps:

- Stay informed about weather updates by following the National Weather Service, local media outlets, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management social media feeds.

- Sign up for CharMeck Alerts to receive location-specific emergency alerts.

- Stay updated on local rainfall amounts and creek levels.

- Build an emergency kit containing non-perishable food, one gallon of water per person per day, flashlights with extra batteries, medications, a first-aid kit, a back-up battery, pet supplies, and other items specific to your family's needs.

In case of emergencies, residents are reminded to call 9-1-1 to be routed to the appropriate emergency services. For reporting downed trees that are partially or fully blocking roads, also call 9-1-1. Non-emergency situations, such as storm drain blockages or creek blockages, water and wastewater emergencies, and downed trees in yards that do not pose a safety risk, can be reported by calling 3-1-1. Power outages should be reported directly to the energy provider.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management is actively providing updates on Twitter and Instagram. Stay connected to their social media platforms for the latest information.

In anticipation of severe weather, the collaborative efforts between CMEMO, Mecklenburg County, and the City of Charlotte demonstrate the commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. By taking proactive measures and encouraging residents to be prepared, they aim to minimize the impact of the upcoming storm.
