WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) has introduced the Constitutional Election Integrity Act, a bill aimed at preventing state politicians and entities from disqualifying presidential candidates based on constitutional matters. The legislation asserts that only the Supreme Court of the United States has the authority to decide legal claims arising from the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.

The bill, co-sponsored by Senators J.D. Vance (R-OH), Rick Scott (R-FL), Ted Budd (R-NC), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), also includes provisions to withhold federal funding for election administration from states that misuse the 14th Amendment for political purposes.

Senator Tillis emphasized the importance of allowing American voters to decide who they elect as their president, stating, "The Constitutional Election Integrity Act would put any constitutional challenges in the sole place they belong: the U.S. Supreme Court."

Senator Scott condemned the practice of removing political opponents from the ballot, likening it to actions seen in communist countries. He stated, "Kicking your political enemies off the ballot is the kind of stuff you see in communist countries like Venezuela, Cuba, and China—it should never be happening in the United States of America."

Senator Budd echoed these sentiments, highlighting the need to restore election integrity and ensure that voters have the final say in determining the next president. He stated, "Activist courts and far-left state officials have attempted to remove a lawful candidate for president from the ballot in a brazen, undemocratic act of election interference."

Senator Lummis voiced concern over the undermining of the political system and the silencing of American citizens through the misuse of state courts. She emphasized the importance of protecting the freedom to elect the president, stating, "The Constitutional Election Integrity Act gives the U.S. Supreme Court the authority to preserve this sacred right."

Senator Mullin criticized the efforts of states like Colorado and Maine to undermine American voters and remove President Donald Trump from the ballot. He expressed support for the bill, stating, "Our bill, the Constitutional Election Integrity Act, will clarify and affirm that any challenges to the U.S. Constitution must be adjudicated by the Supreme Court, not partisan activists."

The Constitutional Election Integrity Act seeks to restore freedom and democracy to elections, putting an end to partisan interference in the candidate qualification process. The text of the legislation can be found on the official government website.
