Charlotte, NC (April 8, 2024) – In a significant move, the city council of Charlotte has approved $3.6 million in grant funds to bolster workforce development initiatives. The unanimous decision highlights a strong commitment to enhancing opportunities for residents and businesses in the city.
Mayor Vi Lyles expressed her enthusiasm over the approval, stating, "We are thrilled to announce the approval of these substantial grant funds for workforce development." She emphasized the council's strategic focus on workforce development, emphasizing the importance of creating an inclusive economy for all individuals to thrive.
The grants, aimed at supporting training programs, career navigation services, and job seeker support, will benefit over 500 individuals looking to enhance their employability, as well as businesses seeking to reinforce their workforce. Among the organizations set to receive funding are Road to Hire, Charlotte Works, City Startup Labs, and Gener8tor Management.
Danielle Frazier, special assistant to the city manager, emphasized the critical role of a strong workforce in the city, stating, "Our city is only as strong as its workforce." Frazier highlighted the importance of partnering with local organizations to equip the community with the necessary skills and resources for success, expressing gratitude to the city council for their shared vision and support.
The grants are made possible through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and are set to kick off programming this spring. The investment signifies a proactive approach by the city council to empower individuals and businesses, ultimately contributing to a more robust and dynamic local economy.
