Nominations for the 2024 Urban Design Awards are now being accepted, and the City of Charlotte is encouraging public submissions.

Affectionately dubbed the “Urbies,” this Urban Design Center-led awards program aims to recognize, celebrate, and champion quality urban design in Charlotte while fostering community discussion on what makes unique and great places.

Over the next two weeks, residents have the opportunity to nominate outstanding projects in the People’s Choice Award for Great Urban Design category. The People’s Choice Award is a completely community-led category that is in its third year. In 2022, residents chose Five Points Plaza as the inaugural winner, and in 2023, The Line took home the title.

For other categories listed below, a jury of 10 urban design experts will select the best projects:

- Great New Development Near Transit

- Great Walkable Neighborhood

- Great New Life for an Old Place

- Great Public Space

- Great Placemaking

- Great Street

- Great Urban Architecture

- Great Urban Design Champion

- Great Neighborhood Champion

- Great Student Project

- Great Suburban Design

Winners will be announced at the Urban Design Awards ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 7. To learn more about the Charlotte Urban Design Awards and submit a nomination, please visit the People Make Cities blog. Nominations close on Friday, Sept. 13.
