Trevin Wallace is set to make his first start as a middle linebacker for the Carolina Panthers against the Chicago Bears, following an Achilles injury to Shaq Thompson. Thompson, who had been guiding Wallace since he was drafted, reached out to him with advice and insights into the upcoming game. "He put me under his wing as soon as I got drafted," Wallace shared.
Thompson provided Wallace with a detailed analysis of the Bears' gameplay, emphasizing key areas to focus on. "Watch the O-line, clean eyes, then strike," Thompson advised. This mentorship has been crucial for Wallace's preparation.
Panthers general manager Dan Morgan expressed confidence in Wallace's potential when he was drafted. "Athletic freak, a guy that can run sideline to sideline," Morgan said of Wallace.
Linebackers coach Pete Hansen noticed promising signs from Wallace during preseason games. "We really saw not only the effort but the strength," Hansen remarked.
With Josey Jewell likely out due to injury, defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero praised Wallace's intelligence and physical attributes. "He's very intelligent... good size, good length, he can run," Evero stated.
Wallace is ready for his new role and remains unfazed by nerves. "I got a clean plate. Josey and Shaq helped me be calm," he said confidently ahead of Sunday's game at Soldier Field.
