Rookie running back Jonathon Brooks and special teams captain Sam Franklin Jr. both made their practice debuts on Wednesday, marking significant moments for the Charlotte team. Franklin, who has been sidelined since breaking his foot during training camp, returned to the field with his characteristic energy and enthusiasm.

"Barely noticed him; that guy doesn't have any personality at all," joked safety Nick Scott about Franklin's vibrant presence. Franklin's return was celebrated as he reintroduced his spirited style by jumping off a moving golf cart and energizing the team with a loud call to action.

Punter Johnny Hekker expressed his delight at having Franklin back: "Sam is a presence. I'm so happy to have him back; he makes an impact. He brings that energy." Hekker highlighted Franklin's role as a vocal leader in meetings and on the practice field, emphasizing his ability to encourage communication among teammates.

Reflecting on his time away from the game, Franklin said, "You know, it's been 81 days since I played, but nobody's counting." He acknowledged the challenge of being sidelined and emphasized how important it was for him to regain confidence through practice.

Meanwhile, despite being ranked last in points allowed this season, quarterback Andy Dalton and head coach Dave Canales are focused on maintaining consistency on offense. Dalton stated their goal is to score every time they have possession of the ball. Canales emphasized building a stable offensive base without deviating from their core strategies unless necessary during late-game situations.

Injury updates revealed tight end Tommy Tremble and center Andrew Raym were in non-contact jerseys due to concussion protocols but are nearing full recovery stages. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson, who missed Wednesday's practice along with eight others, is expected to return Thursday.

"He'll be out there tomorrow practicing; expect to see him just flying around and making plays," Canales assured regarding Johnson's anticipated return.
