Two Charlotte men received prison sentences for their involvement in a bank robbery, according to an announcement by Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Sherrod Davidson, Jr., 33, was sentenced to 139 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Rashad Jackson, 44, received an 84-month sentence with the same period of supervised release. A third defendant, Dominique Duggins, 33, has pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
The announcement was made in conjunction with Robert M. DeWitt, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Charlotte Division, and Chief Johnny Jennings of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
Court documents reveal that on September 9, 2020, two employees from Garda World Cash Services were servicing a Bank of America ATM in Charlotte when Davidson, Jackson, and Duggins carried out the robbery. Surveillance footage showed Duggins confronting one employee at gunpoint while Davidson targeted another employee refilling ATM cassettes with cash. The two then fled with multiple bags of cash in a vehicle driven by Jackson.
Investigations identified Duggins as a suspect due to his prior employment at Garda World Cash Services from June to July 2020 before being terminated. Davidson and Jackson were later identified as accomplices.
Duggins pleaded guilty to bank robbery on April 29, 2022. On June 28, 2024, both Davidson and Jackson entered guilty pleas; Davidson for bank robbery and aiding and abetting and Jackson for possession and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
Both men are currently in federal custody pending transfer to a designated federal facility. A sentencing date for Duggins remains unscheduled.
U.S. Attorney King expressed gratitude towards the FBI and CMPD for their investigative efforts.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Boykin prosecuted the case under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities.
