Bryce Young's demeanor following the game against the Chiefs was notably serious, despite his strong performance. After addressing his team in the locker room, he emphasized that their narrow loss should not be taken lightly.
"Bryce said it after the game. This is not a fluke where we just played toe-to-toe on the best team in the league," cornerback Jaycee Horn shared. "We really believe that's who our team is."
Young showcased a different side of himself, one that contrasts with his calm public persona. His teammates recognized this intensity, which isn't often visible to outsiders.
"I knew that was in him, you know, he's a dog," Horn added. "Don't let the quiet talk fool y'all. Bryce is a real dog."
In Sunday's game, Young delivered an impressive performance against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. He threw for 263 yards and a touchdown without turnovers, nearly matching Mahomes' stats. Despite Mahomes leading his team to a last-second victory, Young's efforts were notable.
"When I see Bryce, I'm like, oh that's the Alabama Bryce," linebacker Trevin Wallace remarked. "And I love seeing him go making plays because a lot of people doubt him."
Earlier in the season, Young struggled and was benched for Andy Dalton after two poor games. An accident involving Dalton allowed Young to return as starter, where he has shown steady improvement since then.
His leadership qualities have grown alongside his performance on the field. Wide receiver Adam Thielen acknowledged Young's evolving role: "I think he's just earned his respect when you play on the field and prepare the right way."
Head coach Dave Canales confirmed that Young would start against the Buccaneers next week following his standout game against Kansas City.
"Yeah, I mean, I don't have to make any statements; he's making it for himself," Canales stated.
Teammates have noticed changes in Young beyond football skills—his sideline demeanor and leadership are resonating with them.
Thielen praised Young's "command of the huddle" during challenging moments against a strong defense.
Young remains focused on teamwork and embracing his role within their system: "I'm leaning on my teammates," he said post-game.
The Panthers hope this new dynamic will translate into more victories as they continue through their season.
