Martin Luther King Jr. Day is recognized as a day of service, and communities are encouraged to volunteer in honor of Dr. King's legacy. On January 20, several cleanup events will take place along the Beatties Ford Road and Freedom Drive corridors.
These cleanups are organized by Keep Charlotte Beautiful (KCB), Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, Johnson C. Smith University, and the city's GreenPrints initiative through the Corridors of Opportunity program.
The events will run from 10 a.m. to noon on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and are free to attend. Participants are asked to register in advance to ensure adequate supplies.
One cleanup will meet at 2023 Beatties Ford Road Suite D, focusing on Beatties Ford Road north to Montana Drive. Another will convene at Biddleville Park, located at 500 Andrill Terrace, targeting Summit Avenue, Andrill Terrace, and Oaklawn Road.
Camp Greene Park's event will meet at 1221 Alleghany St., cleaning Alleghany Street and Freedom Drive. Lastly, a group will gather at Mecklenburg County Public Health at 2845 Beatties Ford Road to clean Beatties Ford Road south to Montana Drive and N. Hoskins Road.
For those unable to attend these events, KCB offers various programs for community involvement such as neighborhood cleanups, adopting city streets, borrowing cleanup supplies, applying for beautification grants, and more.
KCB has been a part of Keep America Beautiful affiliates for 50 years, working towards inspiring and educating people about community improvement and beautification.
