DetraPel, Inc., a company specializing in clean-tech advanced materials, has announced its decision to relocate its headquarters and manufacturing operations to Charlotte, North Carolina. The move will involve an investment of $3.5 million and is expected to create over 30 new jobs in Southwest Charlotte.
David Zamarin, CEO of DetraPel, stated, “As DetraPel has evolved into a leading barrier coating company, we have sought a location that reflects our ambitious vision. Today marks a significant milestone in our company’s journey as we officially announce Charlotte as the new home for our headquarters and manufacturing operations. With its pro-business environment, thriving advanced manufacturing sector and deep talent pool, Charlotte is the ideal choice for our continued growth. We are grateful for the support of the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County throughout the process and look forward to fostering new opportunities as we expand our presence in the region.”
DetraPel focuses on creating protective coatings free from PFAS chemicals. The company's technology serves various industries including food and beverage, beauty, healthcare, textile, and electronics. Founded by Zamarin in 2013 at age 15, DetraPel gained wider recognition after appearing on "Shark Tank" in 2018.
Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles remarked on the significance of DetraPel's relocation: "DetraPel’s decision to relocate its headquarters and manufacturing operations to our city speaks to Charlotte's dynamic business environment and our healthy ecosystem that welcomes innovation. As we continue to build a robust, diverse economy, opportunities like this demonstrate why Charlotte is a top city for businesses and why our residents should be optimistic about our city's bright future."
The choice of Charlotte followed an extensive search across the Southeast United States. Nearly 70% of DetraPel's domestic business occurs within this region. The relocation will include positions such as engineers, research and development staff, technicians, and back-office roles with an average salary exceeding $71,000.
The new facility will cover 40,000 square feet in Southwest Charlotte and aims to enhance production capacity significantly. Operations are anticipated to start by late spring or early summer.
This project results from collaboration among several entities including the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, North Carolina Biotechnology Center, Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, North Carolina Community College System and North Carolina Department of Commerce.
Mark Jerrell from Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners expressed his support: “As a County we strive to ensure that we remain the ideal place for our residents to live learn work and recreate. The decision for DetraPel to move their headquarters here complements our efforts.”
