Mecklenburg County Manager Dena R. Diorio has been recognized for her dedication to the Hispanic and Latino community through a partnership with Camino, a bilingual and multicultural nonprofit organization. Diorio was awarded the El Camino Campeon Leadership Award.

“Camino is a trusted partner for Mecklenburg County,” said Diorio. “I am honored by the recognition but even more proud of the work we have done together to support our Hispanic and Latino residents at the healthcare center which includes comprehensive dental care services as well as mental health counseling support.”

Camino's campus offers various services including a health center, economic mobility program, thrift store, church, research institute, and educational services.

Since 2016, Mecklenburg County has allocated over $2 million to aid Camino's efforts in health services. This funding has facilitated an expansion of their services and outreach within the community. Additionally, the county provided $4.7 million for a comprehensive dental services center and distributed $2.5 million in ARPA funding for mental health services offering both group and individual counseling.
