Rico Dowdle, a native of the Carolinas, has joined the Carolina Panthers as their newest running back. Despite his roots in the region, Dowdle admits he still relies heavily on GPS for navigation around town. "Shoot from here, to the store, to my house," he said about his dependence on navigational assistance.

Dowdle's journey began in Gaffney, South Carolina before moving with his family to Asheville, North Carolina during middle school. The chance to return home was too appealing for the former Cowboys free agent to pass up. "I think it's got its pros and cons," Dowdle commented about being close to family again.

While he may need directions for some local trips, Dowdle is confident when it comes to following the lead of a strong offensive line. "Obviously (Panthers) got a great O-line," he noted. He praised how the team has built their line over recent years and highlighted their success in keeping quarterback Bryce Young protected and helping Chuba Hubbard achieve a 1,000-yard season.

The Panthers' offensive line was a significant factor in Dowdle's decision to join the team. He expressed interest in sharing responsibilities with Hubbard and sees potential benefits for both players and coaches by having two capable backs on the field. "When you got two guys that can go in, and there's no drop off from one to two, I think it helps out," Dowdle said.

Dowdle signed a one-year deal with the Panthers as Jonathan Brooks recovers from an ACL injury. Although uncertain about what lies ahead after this season, Dowdle is excited about playing for this team and being closer to home. "The opportunity to come back home...was so intriguing," he stated.

Both Dowdle and the Panthers are hopeful that this new chapter will lead them toward success.
