Mecklenburg County has been selected to join the second cohort of the Counties for Housing Solutions (C4HS) program. This initiative, managed by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and Smart Growth America, aims to enhance the housing supply.
For 12 weeks, a team from Mecklenburg County will follow a structured scenario to develop affordable housing. Their tasks will include site evaluation, community engagement, collaboration with potential developers, and securing financing for housing projects.
Mecklenburg County is one of seven counties in the nation to join the spring cohort, which concludes in June. The team includes staff from the County Manager’s Office and Asset and Facility Management, as well as Mecklenburg County Commissioner George Dunlap.
“Finding and sustaining affordable housing is one of the most challenging issues in our community,” said Commissioner George Dunlap. “I am confident our participation in this cohort will ultimately result in a much-needed, excellent and affordable housing project for Mecklenburg County.”
This participation is part of Mecklenburg County’s broader efforts to meet the high demand for affordable housing.
