Senators Thom Tillis and Ruben Gallego have introduced the Veterans Education and Technical Skills (VETS) Opportunity Act. This bipartisan legislation aims to expand the Post-9/11 GI Bill educational benefits to include hybrid skilled trade training programs.

The legislation has gained support from other senators, including Ted Budd, John Cornyn, Ted Cruz, Bernie Moreno, Gary Peters, Rick Scott, and Elissa Slotkin.

Senator Tillis emphasized the bill's intent to "expand veterans’ access to high-quality skilled trade and vocational programs for in-demand career pathways like welding and HVAC." He added that the legislation seeks to provide veterans with "the tools and resources they need to succeed in today’s workforce" by supporting hybrid learning opportunities.

Senator Gallego highlighted the need for veterans to have access to "training programs that prepare them for the modern economy," noting that many of these programs are now offered in hybrid formats. He expressed pride in introducing the bill, which aims to "expand educational opportunities for veterans."

The full text of the proposed legislation is available for public review.
