Report ranks Charlotte as a top city for business

Open

Charlotte has been named one of the top cities in North America for doing business.

A recent report by the Center for the Study of Economic Liberty at Arizona State University looked at 115 cities across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The report examined what hopeful entrepreneurs would have to face in each city to start a business.

Charlotte scored 82.97 out of 100 overall. The study looked at the difficulty of hiring help, securing property, and tax codes. Charlotte is home to Bank of America and Duke Energy. About 71 percent of the population in Charlotte is a part of the workforce, and the city was ranked fourth in the country for ease of finding employees.

State officials have been trying to raise the minimum wage in North Carolina. It is currently $7.25 per hour. Legislators tried to pass a bill in March to raise the rate to $15 an hour, but it stalled in the House.
