The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is asking riders for their opinions about how to make public transportation a better option for riders.
The call for such suggestions went out after a City Council meeting where CATS mentioned that they’d like to help create an Uptown “hub” of retail space, offices and a transportation center.
“We just need to be in a safer place for everybody and (one that's) well lit,” Cynthia Richardson, a frequent CATS rider, said in a WBTV report. “I don’t like the lighting of this facility either,” she added, referring to the facility she was in.
Rider Charles Cheatham agreed saying more lighting and security should top the list of concerns.
Design plans are far from finalized. It has not even been decided what type of system CATS will use, underground or above ground.
To give the transit center a modern feel, Amyr Eberhardt says accommodations should be made for the physically challenged, too.
I have a legally blind wife who takes not only one but two buses into work and back home every single day,” he said, adding that he would like CATS to keep those with special needs in mind.
