Senator Thom Tillis and Representative Richard Hudson, along with other Republican members of North Carolina’s Congressional Delegation, have sent a letter to Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra, demanding transparency and answers regarding the Greensboro Influx Care Facility (ICF). The letter follows the Biden Administration's announcement that the Greensboro ICF will be operational on March 15.

In the letter, the members expressed their frustration with the lack of transparency from HHS, stating, “We write today regarding the recent announcement that the Greensboro Influx Care Facility (ICF), formerly the American Hebrew Academy, will be operationalized effective March 15, 2024. Our offices were notified late afternoon on Friday, March 1, 2024, despite repeated, outstanding requests for answers about plans for operationalizing the facility. We are frustrated by this sudden announcement and the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) lack of transparency to Congress and the State of North Carolina related to this issue.”

The members highlighted the delays they have faced in receiving responses to their inquiries about the Greensboro facility. They mentioned that both Congressman Hudson and Senator Tillis had submitted questions for the record (QFRs) regarding the facility, but had not received any responses. The letter emphasized the need for swift action and greater detail from the Department regarding the current developments and future plans for the Greensboro ICF.

In conclusion, the members called on President Biden to address the crisis of unaccompanied minor migration with real solutions, stating, “It is time for President Biden to take action to secure our border and address the crisis of unaccompanied minor migration with real solutions. Again, we ask you and the Department to respond swiftly to our delegation’s QFRs, as well as provide greater detail of all current developments and future plans pertaining to the Greensboro ICF.”

The full text of the letter can be accessed on the official website.
