The City of Charlotte has announced a new grant opportunity for local nonprofits working with youth, thanks to a generous contribution from Albemarle. The grant, totaling $10,000, is aimed at supporting organizations focused on the upward mobility of young individuals within the community.

Erin Gillespie, interim Corridors of Opportunity executive manager, expressed gratitude for Albemarle's support, stating, "The City of Charlotte is committed to supporting the growth and well-being of our youth. We are grateful to Albemarle for their generous contribution, which will undoubtedly make a meaningful difference in the lives of many young individuals in the Corridors of Opportunity."

Netha Johnson, president of Albemarle Specialties, highlighted the company's commitment to building resilient communities, stating, "Albemarle is committed to building resilient communities, and this grant supports the health and wellbeing of youth and amplifies equity within Charlotte. We are proud to offer this grant to underinvested communities through Corridors of Opportunity in our shared goal of making a positive and sustainable difference."

The grant opportunity is part of the upcoming Meck Mile event, organized by the Charlotte Sports Foundation, scheduled for May 25. The event aims to bring the community together to participate in various activities around Memorial Stadium.

Nonprofit organizations within the corridors that focus on youth well-being are encouraged to apply for the grant. Applicants should align their mission with Albemarle's giving philosophy, which includes providing education, sustainable solutions to critical resources, improving the quality of life, and creating equitable access to pathways for upward mobility.

The application period for the grant opened on March 26 and will close on April 30. The selected nonprofit organization will receive the $10,000 grant and be recognized during the Meck Mile event in May. Interested nonprofits can access more information and the application form through the Meck Mile Community Grant application.
