The City of Charlotte has released its Proposed Fiscal Year 2025 Budget, presented by City Manager Marcus D. Jones, aiming to enhance services and invest in the community. The budget includes various capital investments, salary increases for employees, and a property tax raise to support city operations and public safety.
Jones stated, “I am pleased to propose a budget that advances upward mobility for our community, commits to continued service excellence, and meaningfully invests in our residents, employees, and businesses.”
Key highlights of the proposed budget include:
- Increasing 2024 Housing Bond funding to $100 million for affordable housing.
- Investing in the Corridors of Opportunity and Strategic Investment Areas.
- Allocating funds for sidewalk improvements and economic development partnerships.
- Enhancing transportation safety with investments in Vision Zero.
- Providing salary increases for employees and public safety personnel.
- Implementing a property tax increase of 1.5 cents, the first in six years.
The proposed budget also focuses on supporting arts and culture, public safety, workforce development, safe communities, and transportation planning. Additionally, it includes service fee increases for solid waste, stormwater, and water.
The public hearing for the proposed budget will be on May 13, followed by budget adjustments on May 20 and straw votes on May 30. The City Council will consider the budget for adoption on June 10, with the 2025 fiscal year commencing on July 1, 2024.
