CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 14, 2024) - The City of Charlotte Mayor’s Office, in collaboration with Economic Development and the Charlotte International Cabinet (CIC), is set to host the 26th Mayor’s International Community Awards (MICA) today. MICA is an event that recognizes the corporate philanthropy of three foreign-owned firms as well as the internationally focused contributions of individuals in the Charlotte area. This year's ceremony will acknowledge Lock Drives Inc., Trane Technologies, and Greiner Bio-One.

"I am thrilled to celebrate the commendable efforts of our international community, honoring both foreign-owned firms for their outstanding corporate philanthropy and individuals for their globally focused contributions," said Mayor Lyles. "Together, they embody the spirit of unity and generosity that defines our city's commitment to making a positive impact on a global scale."

Ljubomir Stambuk will be honored with the Richard Vinroot International Achievement Award for his exceptional leadership in the World Affairs Council of Charlotte. Stambuk has shown his commitment to the community by creating new educational programs that enable students to expand their academic horizons and global awareness.

Dalton and Miriam Espaillat will receive the CIC International Entrepreneur Award. Over recent years, the Espaillats have worked tirelessly to demonstrate how deeply interwoven Latin American society is in Charlotte. Their goal is to create opportunities that support their beloved community and provide jobs for those community members facing high barriers to employment.

Sven Gerzer will be presented with the Global Leader Award for his contribution to strengthening Charlotte’s global economic ties. Over the last decade, Gerzer has put Charlotte on the map as a destination for foreign direct investment and job creation by fostering connections with more than 100 international business delegations.
