On May 16, 2024, officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) were honored at the 44th annual Police-Community Relations Awards. The ceremony recognized ten officers for their exceptional service and dedication to building positive relationships within the community.

The esteemed recipients of the 2024 awards include Captain Joan Gallant from the Quality Assurance Division, Officer Doug Gallant Jr. from the North Tryon Division, Officer Rafael Garcia from the Freedom Division, Officer Jody Harkey from the Aviation Unit, Officer Amanda Huffman from the University City Division, Officer Jason Humphreys from the Hickory Grove Division, Sergeant Jeffrey Joseph from Central Division, Officer GF Ritter Jr. also from Hickory Grove Division, Officer Marcus Thompson from North Tryon Division and finally Officer Daniel Youngblood from ABC Unit.

These awards are designed to acknowledge officers and work teams within CMPD who have made significant strides in fostering problem-solving relationships with residents and neighborhood groups. The commendable efforts of these individuals have resulted in meaningful impacts on lives across the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community.

Officers were nominated by community members for these awards. The winners were then selected by a group comprised of members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee. In addition to honoring these outstanding officers, two young individuals were also recognized during this ceremony for their active engagement and successful participation in CMPD programs aimed at youth development.

This annual awards ceremony is a significant event during National Police Week which in 2024 is scheduled to take place between May 12-18.
