The Carolina Panthers' defensive coordinator, Ejiro Evero, acknowledged the team's challenging start to the season but remained optimistic about future improvements. Despite losing key players like Derrick Brown and Shaq Thompson to injuries, Evero emphasized that there are "no excuses" for their current performance. He expressed confidence in his team and their ability to improve as the season progresses.

Evero stated, "Look, I'm very happy with the guys that we have... But there really is no excuse." He highlighted the importance of coaching and striving for better play on defense. The Panthers currently rank 28th in total yards allowed per game and last in points allowed.

The defensive line has faced significant challenges due to injuries, requiring replacements for Pro Bowler Brown and other key players. Evero stressed the need for continuous improvement regardless of personnel changes.

In a positive development, rookie cornerback Chau Smith-Wade saw increased playing time recently. Defensive passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley praised Smith-Wade's progress, saying, "Chau has continued to get better and better."

Meanwhile, Derrick Brown has been present at the Panthers facility despite his injury. Defensive line coach Todd Wash appreciated Brown's presence, stating it adds value to the team environment.

Wide receiver Diontae Johnson shared concerns about Hurricane Milton impacting his home in Florida but was relieved that his family was safe.
