The Panthers have adjusted their active roster before heading to Washington. The team signed defensive tackle T.J. Smith from the practice squad and activated cornerback Dane Jackson from injured reserve.

Jackson, who joined the Panthers in the offseason, was expected to start alongside Jaycee Horn at cornerback. Previously with the Bills, Jackson has played 52 games with 28 starts. A hamstring injury during training camp delayed his debut for the Panthers, but he has been practicing recently.

Smith, 27, has played seven career games in the league with stints at the Chargers, Vikings, and Panthers. He adds depth to a defensive line missing A'Shawn Robinson this week and Derrick Brown on injured reserve.

Additionally, outside linebacker Shaq Lawson and linebacker Shaquille Quarterman were elevated from the practice squad for Week 7. Lawson provides depth to a pass rush affected by Jadeveon Clowney's doubtful status this week. Quarterman supports an inside linebacker group impacted by injuries to Josey Jewell, Claudin Cherelus, Jon Rhattigan, and Shaq Thompson.

To accommodate these changes, veteran cornerback Troy Hill was released and rookie center Andrew Raym waived. Hill had been a regular nickel back since joining last season but became expendable with Jackson's return and increased use of rookie Chau Smith-Wade.

Raym appeared in one game on special teams as an undrafted rookie from Oklahoma.

Safety Sam Franklin Jr. and defensive tackle Jaden Crumedy have been downgraded to out for Sunday's game as they are still within their recovery window from injured reserve.
