In Charlotte, following the recent Panthers vs. Chiefs game, Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid shared their thoughts on Bryce Young's performance and potential. Mahomes, who first noticed Young when Texas Tech offered him a spot in eighth grade, expressed admiration for the young quarterback.
"I remember watching his highlight tapes then. Knew he was going to be a great player," Mahomes recalled after the game. He praised Young's efforts during the close 30-27 match: "I thought he played his tail off. He throws a really good football."
Young completed 21 of 35 passes for 263 yards and a touchdown, adding three carries for 34 total yards against a strong Chiefs defense ranked in the Top 5.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid also commended Young's performance: "I think he did a heck of a job," Reid stated. He highlighted Young's support from veteran quarterback Andy Dalton and acknowledged other players like Chuba Hubbard and Jonathon Brooks.
Reid's observations carry weight as they come from the back-to-back Super Bowl champions' head coach. Panthers coach Dave Canales appreciates Reid's strategic approach and aims to build a similar culture within his team.
"Using different personnel, using the strengths and talents that they have is really what I admire most about coach Reid," Canales noted.
Despite praise from opponents, both Canales and Young remain focused on improving their team’s results. "Coach said in the locker room there aren't moral victories," Young reflected post-game. "We want to win on Sundays."
The Panthers continue to strive towards establishing their identity while learning from their experiences against top-tier teams like the Chiefs.
