RXO expands in Charlotte with $13.7M investment creating 216 new jobs

RXO, a freight transportation broker, is set to expand its operations at its Charlotte headquarters. The company plans to invest $13.7 million and create 216 new jobs in the Ballantyne area over the next few years.

"This is not just an expansion; it's a significant milestone for our city’s growth and economic development," stated Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles. "This investment will create jobs, drive innovation, and enhance our community's prosperity."

Founded as a public company in November 2022 and based in Charlotte, RXO focuses on tech-enabled brokered transportation.

"RXO is proud to expand our operations in Charlotte," said RXO CEO Drew Wilkerson. "We will continue to leverage the city’s strong infrastructure and skilled workforce."

Charlotte offers RXO advantages such as proximity to key interstates, a rail system, an international airport, and a business-friendly climate.

"RXO's decision to renew and expand its office presence at Ballantyne is a resounding commitment to Charlotte," said John Barton of Northwood Office.

The expansion will increase RXO’s statewide headcount from 759 full-time employees to 975. The average annual salary for the new positions will be $89,769.

“One of our core commitments is creating and maintaining a pro-business climate,” said George Dunlap of Mecklenburg County Commissioners. “RXO’s expansion is a victory for both the company and our residents.”

This project involved collaboration between various local entities including the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.

In recent years, these entities have worked on multiple economic development projects that brought over $440 million in capital investment and more than 1,291 new jobs.
