March marks National Social Work Month, a time to acknowledge the efforts of social workers in Mecklenburg County. The Board of County Commissioners has issued a proclamation designating March as Social Work Month, with this year's theme being "Social Work: Compassion + Action."
Social workers play crucial roles across various departments in Mecklenburg County, offering services that range from child welfare and foster care placement to ensuring food security and providing financial assistance. They also offer support for adults needing medical assistance and aid domestic violence victims in obtaining necessary help. Additionally, they work towards securing permanent housing for the homeless.
Kimberly Henderson, director of Mecklenburg County’s Child, Family, and Adult Services, emphasized the commitment involved in social work. "Social work is not just a profession—it’s a calling. It is a commitment to advocacy, to equity and to ensuring that the most vulnerable among us have access to the resources and support they need," she stated. She further highlighted the dedication required by these professionals who face challenging public service tasks daily.
