CHARLOTTE — The Panthers added nine familiar faces to the practice squad on Wednesday as they continue to build out the roster for the regular season. The team signed tight end Jordan Matthews, running back Mike Boone, safety Alex Cook, linebacker Chandler Wooten, defensive linemen T.J. Smith and Walter Palmore, outside linebacker Kenny Dyson, guard Mason Brooks, and quarterback Jack Plummer.
All of them were in camp and part of Tuesday's moves to get to a 53-man roster.
Plummer had an exceptional outing in the preseason finale, going 21-of-29 passing for 278 yards and two touchdowns. His passer rating was 125.4. "Jack did his thing today," wide receiver Diontae Johnson said with a nod of respect.
Matthews and Boone also bring back solid special teams credentials and could be of use soon.
Teams can sign up to 16 players to the practice squad, in addition to one international exemption.
