Jeff Bright honored as Charlotte Fire Officer of the Year

Captain Jeff Bright has been named the 2024 Charlotte Fire Officer of the Year. With nearly three decades of service, his leadership and dedication have significantly impacted the Charlotte Fire Department.

Captain Bright began his career with the department on November 29, 1995. He is known for his expertise in technical rescue operations as the company officer for Rescue 10 on A Shift. His skills include rope rescue, vehicle extrication, confined space, trench rescue, and swift water rescue.

Firefighter Kevin Murphy expressed admiration for Captain Bright's leadership: "Captain Bright has spent his entire career helping and supporting not only the residents of Charlotte but countless other communities and fire departments."

Bright emphasizes continuous learning, often stating, "Every day you learn something new, and you should take that opportunity to grow." His ability to remain calm under pressure has earned him the trust of his crew.

Firefighter Bill Mitchell also praised Captain Bright: "There is not an officer more deserving."

Beyond local service, Captain Bright contributes to North Carolina's Emergency Management Response Team. He plays a key role in urban search and rescue training programs across the state.

Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson commended Captain Bright's selection: "Captain Jeff Bright is a shining example of what it means to be a leader in the fire service."

The recognition highlights Captain Bright’s long-standing commitment to improving the department and preparing future generations of firefighters.
