The Carolina Panthers are facing increasing challenges with their defense as two linebackers have been placed on injured reserve. The team announced on Tuesday that Trevin Wallace and Claudin Cherelus will not return for the remainder of the season.
Wallace, a third-round draft pick from Kentucky, had stepped into a starting role following a season-ending injury to veteran Shaq Thompson. He was performing well until he sustained a shoulder injury during a game in Philadelphia. Cherelus took over for Wallace last week but suffered a foot injury, although he managed to play in the second half.
In response to these injuries, the Panthers have signed wide receiver Dan Chisena and linebacker Jacoby Windmon from their practice squad. Both players have already seen action this season.
The team's depth at inside linebacker is now limited to veteran Josey Jewell and Jacoby Windmon, along with special teams player Jon Rhattigan, who recently played his first defensive snap.
